How to Prepare Your Home For Pest Control

You’ve seen the problem: Insects are invading your home. You’ve seen their nests in your ceiling, your walls, your basement. They are stressing you out. So, you’ve made the right decision and called a professional pest removal company.

The pest removal company is going to visit in a few days. Now, what do you do?

You are excited that experienced and knowledgeable pest removal technicians are coming to your home. However, you have a lot of questions. How do you prepare the sections of your home to be treated? How can you make sure that you’ve done everything you can so that the pest control company can target all of the pests in your home? Do you need to protect your furniture and other property?

All of these are relevant questions. You want your home prepared.

7 ways to prepare your home for pest control

Here are our recommendations to make sure the interior of your home is prepared when the pest removal services company visits:

  1. Remove all the obstacles that may get in the way such as sports equipment, coat racks, toy boxes, litter boxes, pet bedding, etc…
  2. Clear your living room. Be sure to vacuum the floors. The less debris, the more efficient the treatments. Also, move large furniture (couches, shelving, etc.) away from the walls so the treatment technicians can reach them.
  3. Clean the kitchen. Clean the dirty dishes in the sink and put them in the cabinets. Or, place them in the dishwasher. Keep food sealed and put them in the freezer, refrigerator, or pantry. Take out the trash and make sure the trash can isn’t overflowing. Put any kitchen tools (knives, spatulas, pans, pots, etc.) away so that the countertop is clear. Smaller appliances such as toasters, convection ovens, fryers, etc. can also be placed in drawers and cabinets.
  4. In your bedroom(s), make the bed and change the sheets after the treatments. Put all books, magazines, toys, dirty laundry, and pet toys into the closet or storage. Put clean clothes away and place the laundry basket in storage or away from the treatment area. Pets should be in another room or in the yard until treatments are completed.
  5. Tidy the bathroom. Put all of your clothes away in drawers or the closet. Place towels in the closet and the dirty clothes hamper out of the way or in the closet. Clean the bathroom counter by putting all products, especially toothbrushes and toothpaste, and other dental items in the closet or in a protected location. If under the sink is going to be treated, remove all products so that the technician has a clear space.
  6. Clear the garage. Park all vehicles outside. Clear the garage of any items that may be food or other related items.
  7. Keep children away. Even if the treatment is holistic or safe, it is best to keep your children away from the treated areas so that they don’t unintentionally track it throughout the home. If children have asthma or allergies, you should remove them from the treated areas. They can stay at a neighbor’s or friend’s home. Consult your pest removal technician on the best methods.

Before your pest removal technician visits, prepare a list of questions and concerns. You may even want to mark the areas in your home that have been infested. Describe the pests or take photos of them. Detail when they were last seen and if it has spread to other areas inside your home.

Your home will be ready. If you have questions before the pest removal team arrives, call the company to make sure you are thoroughly prepared.

Troy inspected my home carefully, made a recommendation, gave me a bid and did the work competently. He explained the termite life cycle n how the pesticide treatment worked. He indicated they may swarm again but after 90 days all evidence of live termites should be gone. He explained his warranty n yearly inspection.

Control or Inspect for Termites I was deeply impressed by the expertise and professionalism of Troy and Jeff. They have great knowledge about the biology and behavior of termites as well as years of experience working with residential customers. They knew exactly what needed to be done, were on time, worked hard, and patiently answered any questions I had. Having them do the job gave me great confidence that my pest problem will be promptly resolved.

Great service, called them about an issue I was having with yellow jackets flying in and out of the siding of my house, Troy came out the very next day and assessed the situation and got the problem fixed, he even checked in a couple days later to make sure the yellow jackets were not coming back. I would highly recommend them for the super quick service they provided and the fact that they check up on their work. Thanks again
