Is there anything more annoying than bees on your property? These creatures not only sting—which can be life-threatening for some people with allergies—but they are incredibly difficult to get rid of once they get inside your home.
Luckily, you can try a few bee removal options before contacting an exterminator. However, if all else fails, we recommend calling in the pros at Pest Shield! With more than 60 years of combined pest control experience, we can solve your infestation for good.
Spray Insecticides
You’ll find insecticide sprays at your local grocery or hardware store. These chemical applications can paralyze and kill bees relatively cheaply—as long as you choose the right products!
The problem with some insecticides is that they contain harsh ingredients that might harm your pets and family. So, you’ll want to keep your dog or cat inside your home while you spray these things.
Also, remember to wear protective clothing such as a glove, hat, and face mask. That way, you won’t breathe in potentially dangerous chemicals.
For the best results, we recommend spraying your insecticide early in the morning or evening when temperatures are cooler. At these times of the day, bees are more likely to be in their nests, making application much easier. Good luck!
Seal Entry Points
This tip won’t get rid of bees in nests outside your home. However, it can stop them from entering your property and swarming around food scraps and trash cans.
You’ll want to seal any areas where bees can access your home, such as vents and wall cracks. Steel wool or caulking, which you can find online or in your nearest hardware store, can help here. Just make sure you conceal any gaps and holes as tightly as possible.
Use Vinegar
Not many people know that vinegar is a natural bee deterrent—and a much cheaper option than store-bought insecticides. In fact, the fumes from vinegar are strong enough to suffocate these flying insects, so you might want to try this option before contacting a professional.
Start by filling an empty spray bottle with equal parts water and vinegar. Shake the bottle for a few seconds and then spray your mixture in areas on your property with lots of bee activity, such as trees and holes in gutters and pipes.
Alternatively, spray vinegar directly on any bee nests you come across. Just remember to wear your protective clothing! Bees can sting when they feel threatened, so you’ll want to take precautions.
Why You Should Hire a Professional
All the above methods might get rid of bees temporarily. However, they don’t address the root cause of your problem: Why bees have infiltrated your property in the first place.
That’s why we recommend hiring a professional like Pest Shield. Our team will determine the source of your infestation and customize bee removal treatments based on your needs.
